The classic handbook for writing, The Elements of Style by Strunk and White, has been updated. Did they give it an index? No, that came along in '72 or '79. Did they make it a hardcover to replace the tattered paperback you had in college? No, the hardcover's been out for a while.
No, the update is to include illustrations. And not back and white doodles like you might see in the New Yorker, but full color pictures by artist Maira Kalman. I saw the ad for it in last Sunday's NYT magazine, and wondered what the sad looking dog had to do with a book full of advice like: "Express coordinate ideas in similar form."

Yes, it is quite bizarre that they would add those pictures to such a book about writiing.
